MITCH’S MAGIC…IN THEIR OWN WORDS (names changed to protect the innocent)
“The String Thing”
Tony “The Turtle” Jarvis from Ickham, Kent…”Mitch comes up to the table, we are waiting for our next course, he smiles, introduces himself and proceeds to knock us sideways with a bit of string ! He explains that he loves to do magic with everyday objects and pulls out a tatty bit of string from his pocket. He loops it and places it into my hand and asks me to close my fist around it, from now on I never let go, I know I never let go. The loop is sticking out of the bottom of my fist, the two ends out of the top, he cuts through the loop. He asks how may pieces I now have, but he has that twinkle in his eye. I tell him two, because I can see the two ends at the top and now at the bottom. He pulls the two bits through my fist and then there is just one bit of tatty string again. Simple as that, no funny business, no smoke, no mirrors. I still have the bit of string, I keep it to remind me that all is not always what it seems…..Magic!”
Mitch says…”This is a great piece of magic, its origins lost in the mist of time. I love it for many reasons…it really is just a bit of string…it happens right in the spectators hands…it defies logic. Sometimes, simplicity is the real key to great magic. Of course I do all kinds of strange things with playing cards, silk hankies, sponge bananas, an invisible flea called Fred and even a miniature guillotine, but the “String Thing” is always a feature, people really do keep those bits of string!”
“The Love Thing”
Eddie “The Greek” from Birchington says… ” I was at the Captain Digby, a local pub and restaurant enjoying a special Valentines Day meal and didn’t know that Mitch was going to be there entertaining at the tables. He did a routine for us at the table and me and my girlfriend loved every minute, it made the evening special. I remember one piece of magic in particular. He explained that he didn’t do the fancy …you pick a card and I’ll pull it out of this passing elephants trunk…kind of card tricks, just simple, easy to follow mind blowing miracles, quite a claim, but it turned out to be true! He shuffled a deck of cards and asked my girlfriend to listen to the sound of the cards as they fell to the table, when she heard them whisper her name she was to say stop! After a bottle of wine and 2 gin and tonics this seemed quite normal for her. She duly selected a card and was told to remember it and to focus the image clearly in her mind. So far, so normal! Then the unexpected, Mitch turned to me and asked me to try to sense the image that was in my girlfiends mind, as our psychic connection would be especially powerful on Valentines day. Sure enough, I actually saw the image in my mind, named the card and….it was correct. My girlfriend screamed and we talked about it for ages afterwards. What a great peice of magic, never seen anything like that before or since!”
Mitch says… ” This was a great night, I had a number of Valentine themed sets ready to perform at each table, but this trick was a real winner. It is a really powerful experience for the lady and there is a great comedy twist for the gentleman, it really works well. To end each set I made a paper rose for each lady to take home as a little reminder of a magical evening”
“Pearl Drops”
Arthur “2 Sheds” Jackson from Ramsgate…”Mitch knew it was my wifes birthday, nothing to do with mind reading, he had been invited to entertain our party guests! A nice touch was that he had prepared a little routine especially for her, and he left her with an cute little gift. He took from his pocket a small container and asked my wife to open it to reveal her special gift. She was somewhat underwhelmed to discover a small piece of string. I remember distinctly Mitch taking the end of the string, next thing there was a sparkly flash of light and the string was now a string of pearls, wasn’t expecting that. Next he takes hold of the string of pearls and makes a few twists and turns, a bit like balloon modellers do, and there was a little poodle, all made of pearls. This was so cute my wife still has it.
Mitch says…” I always like to personalise my magic. For example at a Valentines Night celebration most of my tricks will be themed around romance or emotional connections. For Halloween the more disturbing and downright freaky stuff comes out. But wherever I can I like to leave a little memento of my visit and Pearl Drops is a really cute routine with a unique gift at the end. Many ladies in the area now have a little pearl poodle, courtesy of Magic Mitch”
